Water supply scenarios of agricultural areas: Environmental performance through Territorial Life Cycle Assessment

چکیده
This paper aims to assess the conditions under which hydraulic projects can be considered as an efficient option, from environmental point of view, secure water supply agricultural areas using Territorial Life Cycle Assessment (T-LCA) methodology. Firstly, performance three theoretical land-use planning scenarios are defined: (1) a business-as-usual case without irrigation, (2) irrigation with Inter-Basin Water Transfer (IBWT) and (3) Agricultural Reservoir (AR). These all assessed by computing territorial eco-efficiency (i.e. ratio between services provided land their related impacts). Secondly, methodology was used water-energy-infrastructure nexus two projects. Results indicate that eco-efficiencies vary according service type use. For management or economic functions, scenario perform better, while more eco-efficient for functions biomass production. The analysis highlights trade-offs types project. On one hand, IBWT allows use low-stress resource less energy, but may require high material consumption. other AR uses relying on scarce resource. performs better than if pipe length is 100 km, allocation 1% (proportion infrastructure allocated agriculture area). study underlines importance considering context in assessment order support decision-making.

Integrated life-cycle assessment of electricity-supply scenarios confirms global environmental benefit of low-carbon technologies.
Decarbonization of electricity generation can support climate-change mitigation and presents an opportunity to address pollution resulting from fossil-fuel combustion. Generally, renewable technologies require higher initial investments in infrastructure than fossil-based power systems. To assess the tradeoffs of increased up-front emissions and reduced operational emissions, we present, to our...

T his research is an attempt to determine the agronomic plan, shadow price and final value with an emphasis on optimization of water use in five main agricultural regions of Kerman province (Kerman, Baft, Bardsir, Bam, and Jiroft) and five crops (wheat, barley, potato, onion, and tomato). Analysis was based on three scenarios: (i) current planting conditions, (ii) profit maximization...
متن کاملChallenges of Electricity Production Scenarios Modelling for Life Cycle Assessment of Environmental Impacts
This communication presents a first attempt at making a life cycle assessment of prospective electricity production scenarios which were designed in the EnerGEO project. We start by a basic review of system (in this case, scenario) modelling expectations in today’s LCA study. We then review some of the challenges of implementation due to the lack of detailed description of present and future el...
متن کاملEnvironmental systems analysis of agricultural systems: Coupling dynamic simulation models with Life Cycle Assessment
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is usually carried out using fixed coefficients for resource use and emissions as the basis for the calculation of the environmental impact of a product or a service. However, in agriculture, where the systems’ functioning largely depends on the dynamic organisation of agricultural practices and on variable climatic conditions, coupling dynamic simulation models with...
